Why Did You Want to
Become a Dentist?
Dr. Conklin was raised in a dental family (both of her parents are dentists), but she didn’t decide to go
into dentistry until high school. She was always interested in healthcare, and she wanted to be able to give
back to the community in some way. She knew that dentistry would allow her to do this, so she started her career
by volunteering to assist on dental mission trips. After these experiences, she knew she truly wanted to be a
dentist.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Conklin attended Baylor University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 2005, and she went
onto receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental
Surgery in 2009. From there, she continued her education with a one-year residency to strengthen her skills
in dental implant placement, periodontal surgery, and restorative dentistry. She has also attended the
Pankey Institute to broaden her knowledge in restorative dentistry. In order to be a successful dentist, she
believes that she must continue her education to stay up to date on the latest techniques and procedures.
Outside of the Dental Office,
What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Conklin is married to Kyle, and they stay very busy thanks to their twin boys and German Shorthaired
Pointer, Belle. In addition to dentistry, her passion is serving and building up the next generation. She and
her husband run an afterschool program called SHARPkids, and they are also very active in ongoing community
reconciliation efforts.
