Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Ward knew relatively early that he wanted to go into medicine, and when it came time to pick a career, he saw that dentistry would be the right fit. He liked the idea of being able to work closely with each individual patient and use his hands to make beautiful restorations. Today, he has over a decade of experience, and he looks forward to continuing for many years to come!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Ward is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2008. Since then, he is the first and only dentist in Baltimore to receive accreditation from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is one of approximately 450 dentists and technicians in the world.
He is an avid learner and believes in lifelong education, which is why he studies at renowned advanced education institutes such as Kois and Spear Education. He’s also a visiting faculty member at the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida, where he teaches Mastering Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, Mastering Dental Photography, and Mastering Treatment Planning courses.
Dr. Ward is a Clinical Ambassador for Dental Advisor, editorial board member for Dental Economics, and journal curator for Restorative Nation. He has published articles and cases in the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and the QDT Yearbook, as well as Dental Economics. Dr. Ward is also an active member of the Maryland – Academy of General Dentistry.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Originally from North East, Maryland, Dr. Ward enjoys spending time with his wife, Melody, who he met in dental school. She’s also the periodontist at Baltimore Dental Arts! He loves being able to work with her every day. Together, they have two boys, Cyrus and Lucas, who enjoy playing baseball, soccer, and flag football. They enjoy traveling to fun places as a family and trying new foods, as well as spending time with their extended family.
Outside of the office, you can always find Dr. Ward traveling around the country to present at dental meetings and study clubs—it’s a passion of his! He’s been a guest on several podcasts discussing technical dentistry, as well as leadership and systems in dental practice. He enjoys playing golf on his days off, going fishing and crabbing with his dad and sons, and playing guitar. A fun fact about Dr. Ward is that in dental school, he was in an all-dentist band called Incisal Edge!
